Music and dance are integral part of many West African cultures. Traditionally, these spontaneous art forms were used for specific occasions, rites and ceremonies, as well as to coordinate and uplift everyday activities.
The drums were used to communicate, empower and heal. The dances, that accompanied drums, were using the movements of everyday life to express feelings, tell stories and to celebrate life.
Although the way of life has changed, the role that West African drumming and dance play in society remains the same: to bring people together.
